People & Culture

At South Haven Group we pride ourselves on our internal culture and are proud of the team we have on board. This is a snap shot of our daily lives at South Haven Group.

Our Culture

South Haven Group was built on strong foundations of mutual respect, integrity, trust, and genuine professional relationships. We place enormous value on our team members and are deeply committed to fostering meaningful, long‑lasting connections with each other and with those we work alongside.

This commitment shapes a culture that recognises effort, celebrates achievement, and encourages excellence. It’s a culture that supports growth, rewards dedication, and attracts people who share our vision of creating rewarding experiences through everything we do.

Community Involvement

We recognise both the opportunity and responsibility to contribute to our community in positive and meaningful ways. Since our inception in 1986, we have actively supported a wide range of charitable and community organisations.

Founders Ian and Gary Pratt, together with their families, have been long-term advocates of organ donation. Gary chaired a committee focused on raising awareness, helping to bring the issue to government attention and contributing to increased organ donation participation across Australia.

Ian is a former President of Ashcare (now Scope Australia), a not-for-profit organisation supporting people with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities. He also served as Honorary Treasurer for more than 15 years and chaired the Finance and Fundraising Committees. During this time, South Haven Group funded and built a purpose-designed home in Blackburn for seven people with severe and multiple disabilities and their carers, providing state-of-the-art facilities to support independent living with assisted care.

Ian also played a key role in the successful merger of Ashcare and Scope, one of the first of its kind in the disability sector.

We also proudly host and support annual fundraising initiatives, just to name a few

  • Daffodil Day Morning Tea (Cancer Council)
  • Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea (Cancer Council)
  • Winter Coat Collection Drive (Off Your Back)
  • Jeans for Genes Day Morning Tea (St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research)
  • Cupcake Day (RSPCA)
  • Feb Fast (Lifeline)
  • Sunset Series Run (Sole Motive – The Kids Cancer Project)
  • 2XU Wellness Run (Beyond Blue)

“I love working at South Haven Group because even though the business has grown so much over the past 40 years, it’s still maintained those core values that were set from day one – it’s a really warm, welcoming family-type culture. Being a part of a progressive, forward-thinking leadership team is also very inspiring.”

Suzy

“It’s a pleasure to work within a business that has a strong focus on family values, and a clear strategy and vision. Our leaders are visible and accessible, so we always feel supported. There is also lots of pride in everything we do which makes for a very fulfilling working week”

Lee

“At South Haven we have a successful business already and it’s not resting on its laurels. We’ve got growth aspirations and I think it’s exciting to be part of that. All the staff have the opportunity to make a difference and have an impact so I think there’s lots of opportunities coming for staff with those aspirations. It’s all very exciting. Working with a group of like-minded people who stop at nothing to achieve the very best without taking short-cuts is extremely fulfilling.

I think we have a community-based ethic in the way that consideration for others in and outside of our workspace is a big part of our culture. I work in finance and across the board there’s quite a lot to do. We’re always looking at making sure the business is well run and that we are providing quality information and helping all the leaders to achieve their departmental goals.

We read a lot in the paper about the property industry and it’s always headline news. It makes it a difficult industry to work in, but it’s really challenging and very fulfilling when we can secure a successful project.”
